Paul Monroe, of ‘Death Tells a Tale’ by A.P. Eisen, didn’t realize how empty his life was until Cliff Baxter came along, filling it with love and light. Now, Paul doesn’t know what he would do without him and doesn’t ever want to do anything to spoil the near bliss he feels. The one thing in his life that threatens to disturb this balance is a cold-case murder that he couldn’t solve. With that piece of the puzzle secured, he could die a happy man.

 

Cliff’s job as a hotel manager is stressful at times but rewarding. After a day of the usual annoyances, he is surprised to receive a call from Herb Hutchinson, president of Vertigo Properties, inviting him to dinner to discuss an offer for employment with his company. Cliff has never considered leaving his position but, even though his hotel is one of the best in the chain, he hasn’t received any offers from his current employers. Cliff is curious about what Herb has to say. He decides to wait to tell Paul about this development after meeting with Herb. 

 

Paul thought that he had the Ginny Sweeten case put to rest until the killer got off on a technicality. He and his partner are determined to prove that Remy is the person who murdered Ginny and, if they have anything to say about it, he will be back behind bars before he knows it. Relentlessly, they pursue the missing piece of evidence that will seal his fate forever and give Ginny’s parents the closure they need. As they go over and over the past clues, they know they must be missing something but what? Still, Paul isn’t willing to give up. Whatever it is, he is determined to find it.

 

‘Death Tells a Tale’ is a brilliant volume in the series. The way Paul and Cliff learn to maneuver through their relationship journey is heartwarming and inspiring. The mystery is wonderfully convoluted and took me on many off-the-beaten-path trips challenging me to make sense of them. The secondary characters ranged from supportive to diabolical. I loved the banter between Paul and his partner. Thanks, A.P. It’s a great tale.
